RF-Radiofrequency Venefit procedure was introduced into the U.S. in 1999 and was added to the RMVC in 2007. The procedure has become very popular due to its claims of less bruising in the post-operative stage of treatment. It equals the success rate of EVLT.
RF-Radiofrequency Venefit™ is also an ultrasound-guided procedure for treating varicose veins. It is an outpatient procedure that provides immediate relief from leg discomfort caused by the unsightly bulging veins—with minimal discomfort, no scarring and immediate recovery. We actually encourage our patients to take a few minutes before leaving our office to walk on a treadmill to begin the active movement of blood for faster recovery. In fact, you’re able to resume most normal daily activities as soon as your leave the clinic. Only rigorous activities such as gym workouts and long-distance running are off limits, and then only for a few weeks.
After applying a local numbing agent, the doctor makes a tiny incision in the leg above the affected vein and inserts a small catheter. Using ultrasound, the doctor guides the fiber into the affected vein and delivers radiofrequency (RF) heat energy to the vein wall. As the RF energy is delivered and the catheter is withdrawn, the vein wall is heated causing the collagen in the wall to shrink and the vein to close. A small bandage is placed over the tiny incision and the procedure is complete.
Once the diseased vein is closed, blood is rerouted to other healthy veins. The body has already compensated for the loss of function in these damaged veins. By closing off the diseased vein and preventing the “back flow” of venous blood, circulation improves, symptoms disappear and the appearance of your legs is noticeably enhanced.
Most people report little or no pain associated with the treatment. After the procedure, you might experience slight bruising, which commonly disappears within the first few weeks, and a sensation of tightness, which disappears soon days after treatment. These possible minor discomforts are relieved with an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication.

Who might not be a good candidate for RF-Radiofrequency Venefit™ treatment?
Patients should wait at least three months after pregnancy or major surgery before undergoing RF-Radiofrequency Venefit™ procedure. People with deep vein thrombosis (clotting) or individuals who are not ambulatory may not be good candidates for this procedure. However, since all cases are unique, RMVC recommends scheduling an individual consultation to determine your treatment options for best results.
